On this day in 1979, Americans across the country watched the program below to find any news about the U.S. hostages being held at the American Embassy in Tehran. Aired on ABC, these nightly reports came to be called “The Iran Crisis—America Held Hostage: Day ___“ until it was renamed Nightline in 1980.
